The Error 2147219196 is common when opening images in Windows 10. While it may now only be certain for images, it can also stop you from opening some apps or generally, a group of apps. Most of the times, we notice it when we double-click on an image to open it and instead of that, it fails to open and crashes. I know that many of us would had tried reset or repair the app by the basic Windows functionalists like the APPS AND FEATURES but that wouldn’t had helped. As I have told earlier here, this error may also occur in the other small apps like calculator and all.
What exactly causes that?
Well, there may be various factors contributing to that. The problem may be because some permission missing for some app or it may also occur due to the interference of other apps with the Photos. But the most obvious reason can be an unsuccessful Windows update. After a recent Windows update, this bug got introduced in the Photo apps by Windows and many people are facing the problem.
What next to solve this?
Actually, nothing can solve this issue in a way better than a Windows update can, but still we can surely do something to try to solve the problem. We can check the permissions and access to important files and folders the app needs and also try for an update. In this article, I have shared all the points I know about that and you’re lucky haven come here. Hope I can solve your problem.
1. Update the photos app :
Updating the photos app usually solves the problem. To go ahead, see if an update is available at the Windows store. May be some update of that app with the bug fixed is waiting for you and all you need to do is to install that. Follow the steps below to update the Windows Photo app.
Step 1: Click on the Start button.
Step 2: Click on Microsoft Store and then select See more.
Step 3: Click on Downloads and Updates and then select Get Updates.
The update will start downloading once you click on this. After the installation is complete, very if it had fixed the problem.
2. Reinstall the Windows photos : If updating the app doesn’t work, you may consider reinstalling the app. To do that, follow the steps below.
- Start the Windows powershell and run this command.
Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.Photos | Remove-AppxPackage
- Download PsExec (it’s a part of PsTools package) from the Windows Website.
- Extract all the contents of that file into any folder.
- Write the following command in the command prompt:
d:\tools\PsExec.exe -user c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
This opens a new cmd window with the System as an account.
5. In that new window write the following command :
rd /s "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.Windows.Photos_2018.18051.17710.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe"
- Press ‘Y’ if it prompts you for execution. This will delete the Windows photos apps from your Now that the app has been deleted from the system, remove all its leftover files. This includes the package folder as well as the app residuals.
- Once the process of deletion is complete, go to the Microsoft Store again and install the Microsoft Photos app again.
3.Go to the Microsoft Apps store Troubleshooter: Whenever something goes wrong with the Apps from the Microsoft Store, the Troubleshooter is always there for help. It helps you identify the problems with the apps and then fixes them automatically. Follow the simple steps to use the troubleshooter and get your problem solved-
a. Press Windows+I simultaneously.
b. Click on the updates and security.
c. In the left pane, select troubleshooter.
d. Look down for the Windows apps store and click on that. Next click on the Run the troubleshooter button.
4. Reinstall all the built in Windows apps :
Sometimes, the built-in apps in the Windows OS may be damaged. It may also be the case that some Windows app is missing. This solution has been tested for the apps like Photos, Movies & TV when they failed to open and is known to work most of the times. To do so, start the PowerShell as an admin and run the following command:
Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage
-DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.I
nstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
5.Fix the registry permissions in the PROGRAM FILES folder :
You may also get the error while opening the files in Windows Photos app if the read permission is missing for the ALL APPLICATIONS PACKAGE GROUP. The All Applications package group should have access to some locations of the folder named ‘Program Files’ in order to function properly.Don’t worry my friend, you just have to make sure that the GROUP I mentioned above has access to the following registry paths:
- HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SAM
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM
- HKEY_USERS
Also make sure that our GROUP has a privilege to Read, Execute and list the folder contents of the folders named Program Files and Windows
6.Booting in a clean boot :
I know that a recent Windows update has done all the mess but many a times our app is completely fine and the third-party apps are the main culprit of our problems. They interfere with some elements of the Windows photos app and prevent it from working properly. In this case, you may consider booting your system in a clean boot to avoid those third-party applications interfering with the photos. To do so, follow the steps below:
Step 1 : Log in with an admin account.
Step 2 : Open the Run by pressing the Windows key + R .
Step 3 : In the box, type msconfig and press enter.
Step 4 : Click on the Services option and uncheck the Hide all Microsoft services button.
Step 5 : Click on Disable All option and then click OK.
Step 6 : Click on the Startup tab and then click on Open Task Manager option.
Step 7 : Now click on the Startup button in the task manager.
Step 8 : Start by clicking on one of the applications in the list and then select the disable option there.Do this with all the applications in the list to disable all third party applications interfering with our photos app.
7.Look for a Windows Update: As you may have read at the beginning, nothing can fix the problem in the way better than a windows update can. We just need to look and there may be a Latest Windows update waiting there with the bug fixed in it. To check for the updates,
a. Press Windows+I simultaneously.
b. Click on the updates and security option.
c. Now click on Check for updates. Windows will now check for any available update.
d. Once the updates are successfully downloaded and installed, restart the computer to apply them.
